Over the last couple of weeks I’ve made some progress in moving fiber from the spinning piles to the yarn stash.
First is the Polwarth/silk yarn I finished at the early March finishing weekend, off the bobbin, wet finished, dried and in its final skein.

Over the last week I also plied and finished this humbug BFL fiber that I dyed back in January.

Became these:
This makes 1.6 lbs. spun this year. Â My goal is 6 lbs. so I need to pick up the pace a little bit, but my goal is definitely doable.
In knitting news, I’ve also started to work on a new cowl, practicing the two color brioche stitch that my friend taught us. Â I started with a scarf, but didn’t like the way the edges were going, and I prefer cowls and shawls to straight scarves anyway, so I ripped it back and cast on for a cowl instead.
It is fairly simple now that I’ve gotten the hang of it, so this will be good mindless TV knitting.
Woah… the spinned yarn is amazing… so beautiful… what do you spin with?

I have a new-to-me spinning wheel, a Matchless. It is my first time with a double drive wheel, and I love how smoothly it spins. Not very portable though.

Thank you! That was a dyeing mistake that turned out to be a lucky one. I didn’t mean to leave so much of the fiber white, but the silk just soaks up dye so I didn’t have enough color in the pot. But I ended up likening the results better than what I had originally intended.

What absolutely gorgeous yarn! You’re making me want to pick up knitting again! I put it down a bit over a year ago and then found embroidery and EPP, so knitting has fallen by the wayside a bit. Your yarn looks absolutely scrumptious!

I’ve never tried English paper piecing. I like foundation piecing with paper, but that is still by machine rather than hand sewing.

I think that’s phenomenal progress! I got my wheel out the other week after several months hiatus and it was lovely to be spinning again, though I’m nothing like as fast as you are!

My spinning has been very sporadic in the last few years. I’ve recently moved the wheel to the living room so I’ll see it and remember that I could be spinning while watching TV.
